Suggestion: Pre-dinner cocktail at Restaurant 1833 with its fancy cocktail bar and outdoor fire pit seating. Suggestion: Buy a bottle of wine (Albarino) at Scheid and stop roadside (turnout adjacent Bird Rock) by Monterey Peninsula Golf Course and enjoy a refreshment enjoying the breakers and potentially the sunset at the public picnic tables! Head via the Lodge, stop at the Lone Cypress and eventually exit at Pacific Grove Gate. Drive down and park by the private Beach Club to walk along the beach. After the 15th green, take a left, head to another Pebble manned "gate house" and just say "Public Beach". Send a private nessage if you are interested in how! The best scenery is along the coastal portion and that's where the most expensive real estate/big houses will be.Ĭarmel Gate is really not that close to Mission Ranch so if you want to check in at Mission Ranch, I'd do that first (continue on Hwy 1 south and exit at Rio Rd) before doing 17 mile drive. You don't really need to do the entire 17 mile loop either. After you exit the PG gate, I would continue along Sunset Dr and drive the PG coastline as that's also beautiful.

    Are you doing this before dinner in Monterey? If so, then yes I would enter at the Highway 1 Gate (where Hwy 1 and 68 meet) and exit at Pacific Grove Gate before heading to Monterey.
